How to host a site on the net made on microsoft frontpage?
i havent made it but want to
how much will hosting with private servers cost me in all??

Web hosting pricing varies I am currently paying about 100 a year for my plan but I have far more features then most will ever need. I can actually host several separate web sites on one account and can have more MySQL databases then I will need. You can find a link to my web host on my links page http://www.lakeareawebs.com/links.html

You will also want to purchase a domain name if it is not supplied by your web host. My web host provides me with 2 free on their middle of the road account which I have. However if you choose a different web host you can always buy your domain names from godaddy.com for under 10 dollars a year each.

Building a site with front page can mean a lot of different things are you building it with .html or .htm pages only if so you can use an apache web server. If you are using ASP technology though you will need a Microsoft IIS web server. If you only need front page extensions you can have them enabled on either type of server with most web hosting companies.

I would highly recommend you learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, & PHP if you are looking for professional results from your web page.

I actually pay less then 120 dollars a year for my domain name and hosting. I do not pay for advertising, merchant account, or SSL certificate though.

How do publish a site that i built using Microsoft Publisher. since am in the uk, it says there is no hosting?

I have built a site using Microsoft Publisher. Since am in the UK , its saying there is no hosting support in the UK. Does anyone know how i can find someone to host this site i built on Publisher. Am on a tight budget so i am not lookibg for someone to do another site for me for them to host me unless the site is free. i dont mind paying a small hosting fee, but preferably as small as Microsoft would.

If there is a way to go around the problem and still host with one of Microsoft s, the better

Thanks

You can use any Web host that supports FrontPage extensions. http://1and1.co.uk is one such host; so too is http://GoDaddy.com

Where your Web host is located does not matter. What matters is if that host has FrontPage extensions enabled on your site. You want that.

Once you find a Web host that has FrontPage Extensions enabled, you publish your site following the instructions here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HP030661591033.aspx

I have a website made with Microsoft publisher hosted on Freewebs.com. How do I get submitting a form to work?

April 30, 2010 microsoft hosting 1 Comment

Whenever I click on "submit", it takes me to a page that says "Page cannot be found". I had the HTML edited in Microsoft publisher to send the info to me in an email, but it didn’t work when I uploaded the html to this website. How do I edit the code to make it work?

You can’t do it with plain HTML. The email option in FrontPage uses a technique that rarely works.

The real answer is you’ll have to use a server-side language like PHP to process the form and send the email. It’s not difficult as programming goes, but if you’ve never encountered programming, it’s a whole new world.

An easier answer is to use something like google forms. Create your form in google docs and set it to send a message to your gmail account. You can then link to the google form from within your web site. You can even hijack the google form and re-use it within your code (I’ve done this in a pinch) but it’s better to know what you’re doing.

Freewebs has a form builder which will probably do what you want. I’ve never used it, but I’m sure you can figure it out if you try.

Could you help me with buying a domain, hosting the website, and using Microsoft Publisher?

April 29, 2010 microsoft hosting 4 Comments

I have purchased a domain at godaddy.com. It comes with free shared hosting. Will there be advertisements on the site? If so, how can I host it so there won’t be any?

Is buying a domain enough? Or do I need to host it somewhere? What does hosting mean?

In Microsoft Publisher I have developed my website with video and text. On each page I have changed the "Web Page Options" so it has the description and keywords to help people find the site through search engines. Then I have saved it under "Publish to the Web…" and I assume I will later upload that to the hosting server? I am not sure how I load the site to the web, how the hosting works, etc.

I need your help understand the role hosting plays, how that works, and its relationship with advertising. I want no ads on the site. Any further comments on what to do in Microsoft Publisher are appreciated.

Thanks!
In response to cailano it’s an htm file.

And as for the video in Publisher, I first loaded the wmv file to YouTube and pasted the embed code in a box called "HTML Code Fragment" in Publisher.

"hosting" is someone providing dedicated server space to your website. For a professional site, you should look into paying someone. Generally this is around $5 per month, but the host usually changes several months or a year up front. A good host is www.startlogic.com

Your host will usually provide a few extras, too. Such as a built in FTP service, lots of email addresses, that sort of thing.

For something built in publisher, you probably don’t need anything fancy at all. There are supposedly some servers you can post to that are free and don’t have advertising, but I don’t know from personal experience. I never wanted to worry about it, so I just cough up my $60 / year and have a site. Paid hosts never place advertising on your site.

As for Publisher, it sounds like you’re on the right track. You want to publish all your files and directories to your host server. Most hosting companies will walk you through the process when you’re ready.

Check those published files. Do they all have an extension of .html or .htm? Is there a separate folder with your images in it?

Publisher does video? Sweet!

Can you apply Forum software to Microsoft Office Live Small Business website builder?

April 28, 2010 microsoft hosting 4 Comments

Curious. It’s an awesome setup for a basic website, but my site is solely a forum site for discussion. I just didnt want to go through those other ‘free forum hosting’ sites because my ultimate goal is to make money for me, not them.

Anyone have any recomendations on a host if Microsoft doesnt work? I heard LunarPages was decent.

If you are going to run forum site using phpbb or vbulletin at your own domain without any ads, then you can select BlueHost as your forum hosting plan. This service is superior with perfect server uptime (over the internet). BlueHost server is fast too, and it doesn’t cost you much, just $6.95/month.

They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. (One of my websites is a forum site)

You can see their Plan Details accompanied with reliable reviews regarding their service at:

Hosting a microsoft exchange server…?

April 25, 2010 microsoft hosting 1 Comment

Hello,

We have a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server environment with approximately 8 Windows 2000 servers and 80 workstations.

We are not running Active Directory or any domain based policies. Its a simple network really. We currently use Outlook 2003 with POP3 email that is hosted by our ISP.

We want to deploy Microsoft Exchange server so that Outlook 2003 can use more advanced features like calendaring, etc. We need to also have Outlook Web Access.

Do we need to convert to active directory, or can I do this without having to convert right now?

Please advise … thank you!

You must have active directory to use exchange server 2000 or 2003. It is not very difficult to install active directory especially if you don’t plan to use group policies but if you do decide to deploy it I would recommend using a 2003 server as the domain controller as there are many improvements to active directory from 2000.
