is it that hard to build a file hosting website ? (simple one) without money/paying/advertising or anything?

hi all
i want to create a file hosting website (for personal use)

i want my friends at school to be able to upload their files to my website and get link back to download it

thats it , its 2 simple

the website isn’t for business purpose , no advertising or users system , or anything else needed..

i think it should be written in php ,

is it easy to do one ?

It is pretty easy and you are right about needing PHP but you may find that freehosts wont allow you to file host as they have been abused in the past.

You will need to pay for a host I think

How simple are the applications provided by Yahoo! Hosting? Are there better providers for this?

I’m currently setting up a website for a group who is not technically savvy. Once the site is up, they will be maintaining it. I checked out the features of Yahoo! Hosting, and the page build, blog, bbs, mailing list and calendar features are especially interesting to me.

Are these features easily controlled via the console? While I am quite capable of handling any command line hacking that needs to be done, I will not always be around to do that, so I’m wondering if Yahoo! is well worth the extra hosting expense because of simple tools. Are there other providers out there which would be better for such a thing?

What is your best idea for a simple host/ss gift for a holiday party that my boyfriend’s boss is hosting?

He works for a non-profit organization, and the party is tonight! I’d like to keep it tasteful and less than $20 — also, there is a white elephant gift exchange, is it correct to bring a host/hostess gift when there is also a gift exchange?

Bring a grapefruit knife from Crate & Barrel and 4 grapefruits – inexpensive and unique. This is the coolest tool and as this is an inexpensive gift – appropriate for a party with a gift exchange.
