Good place to host a potluck dinner?

January 28, 2010 rack hosting 2 Comments

My boyfriend and I took over a monthly Vegan Potluck Dinner a few months ago. We are planning on moving it for a few reasons. Right now it is hosted in a church which we have been told detours people from coming, among other things. We have been racking our brains trying to figure out where to host it. Our apartment isn’t big enough to have it here and the only other place we can think of is at the library but there is no kitchen access and that is a must.

Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance.

Community center or maybe a local college have some space you can rent out or borrow for a couple hours or a bowling alley, that could be fun

Does rackspace hosting sell your e-mail to spamers?

January 23, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

My e-commerce company recently changed to rack space hosting. I have my own domain with them so my e-mail is myname@mycompany.com for the last few years I would get maybe 2-5 spam e-mails a day and I had no spam filter with the webmail service. Now that they have upgraded to rack space hosting a month ago the new mailbox has spam filters but its showing over a hundred spam e-mails a day!!! What changed. Could rack space be in cahoots with the spammers?

Nope.

Everyone is getting more spam these days.

eBay Image Hosting | Thrive Learning Institute | www.thriveli.com

January 17, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

http://www.thriveli.com/ In this video Thrive Learning Institute covers eBay image hosting. One of the biggest hesitations that people have prior to purchasing a product online is the fact that they haven’t had a chance to see the product in real life, they haven’t been able hold it or to see it from all angles. To help people get over this concern you need to provide as many images as possible, if you host those images on eBay however your listing fees will rack up quick. This video will show you the many options you have when it comes to hosting the images that will be viewed in your auction. For more information visit http://thriveli.com/testimonials.php.

Muse Receptor IK Multimedia Total Total Workstation Rack: Bill Plays Host To Hardware VST Host

January 15, 2010 rack hosting 25 Comments

Gearwire was lucky enough to get a Muse Receptor, IK Multimedia Total Workstation Rack in the studio, and wee Bill Holland nearly peed his little self. What’s the big deal? you may wonder. To which we respond, “well dummy, the Muse Receptor is a hardware VST host, and this one comes preloaded with a bevy of plugins designed by IK Multimedia.”

There’s so much one can do with this thing, it was nearly impossible to know where to start with our video demo. Bill suggested “go bananas,” and since we didn’t know what he was talking about, we told him to start with the hardware and user interface.

See more from the Muse Receptor on Gearwire.com!

What is a simple router (or switch?) to use for setting up a rack in a datacenter?

January 15, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

I am trying to setup a rack (colocation) in a data center. It comes with an ethernet port. What device should I get to move trafic from the port to the computers I’d like to put in the rack? And can I use this device to assign the individual IP addresses the data hosting company gives me?

If all your looking for is data connectivity then a simple hub would be sufficient. A switch would be better but $$$ is a concern.

Do you have a single point of entry? the ethernet port? and from there you have to give everything in your rack an IP?

If thats the case, then I am going to guess that your going to need something with multiple ports. You will need this so that you can take the input from the ethernet port (some IP address) and NAT that over to your inside address range. Your going to need to set up NAT, maybe PAT depending on what your looking to do.

Depending on the amount of data your pushing you might get by with a low end 2600 Cisco router, with the proper feature set for some security. But then again this is all speculation based on the limited amount of detail you have provided.
