Why don’t Christians turn to the true God Odin?

May 4, 2010 rack hosting 6 Comments

Haven’t they read the words of the High One? Don’t they know we are living in the End Time and Ragnarök will soon be upon us. The Earth will be racked in the Fimbel winter and Loki will lead the hosts of Hel against the Holy Gods. Unless they join Odin and the Einherjar in the battle against the Frost Giants they cannot hope for rebirth on the Golden plain where peace and justice are forever. Is it just wilful ignorance or do they hate the good?
(Irony warning!!!!)
They can dish it out but can they take it?
Please note the irony warning if you don’t know what irony means I respectfully suggest you use a dictionary.

The 13th century eddaic account of Odin likely contains some Christian elements. The scene where Odin hangs from a tree as a sacrifice to himself has been suggested to reflect the crucifixion of Jesus, down to the detail of having his side pierced with a spear; however, archeological evidence, such as the above mentioned Tollund Man, clearly establish that this form of sacrifice existed before the time of Christ and thus is most likely developed independently.

Other inconsistencies, such as that Odin was hung by a rope from a tree whereas Jesus was nailed to a cross (both wood, but in different contexts) further supports an independent origin of the myth. It is still likely that early Germanic Christians connected the two myths, moulding their image of Christ after Odin and vice versa, an effect that is also suggested by the Anglo-Saxon Dream of the Rood which portrays Christ as a Germanic warrior-king.

Odin’s son Baldur, a god of light, shares some of Jesus’ traits as a youthful "dying and rising" god, but unlike in the case of latter, his resurrection fails and he has to remain in the underworld. The Havamal account of Odin’s sacrifice positions Odin in the otherwise unique Pauline Christian attributes of a "father god" who suffers and defeats death.

The similarity of Odin and Jesus was resurrected by Richard Wagner. Wagner’s association of Odin with Jesus is treated in the Notes of the Seminar Given in 1928–1930 of Carl Jung. Recently, the German National Democratic Party issued T-Shirts labeled Odin statt Jesus ("Odin rather than Jesus") that were popular among the extreme right, but also among apolitical Neo-Pagans.

However both derived from the same story. I believe what you say but i believe what christians say aswell. Does that make any sence? :P

What do you think should I buy…?

May 3, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

A brand new Social Forum needs:

A web hosting plan + paying crazy money/per month

or

example:

IBM xSeries 335 Dual Intel Xeon 3.0GHz
4GB DDR ECC, 2x 36GB U320 10K RPM, RAID, 1U Rack Mount or similar…(one time payment)

Any ideas, suggestions or recommendations highly appreciated!
Thank you!

You forgot to add to option 2 a internet service plan that will allow 100’s if not 1000’s of connections at a time. This will cost more then plan 1 by itself.

Go with plan 1.

Im thinking about doing an exchange to Japan. any tips/advice?

April 29, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

The main reason why Im doing an exchange to Japan is to experiance how different the culture is their compared to Australia.
I would really like some tips and advice from poeple who have been to Japan on Exchange.
Whats the host family like? was in nerve racking?

I have recently experienced that. I applied for an exchange program and last month, I went to Japan with my friends… We stayed there for 3 weeks. Anyway…
It’s really fun! At first, of course, it was nerve racking, since I didn’t know what to expect. And I don’t really know a lot of Japanese words. But it was really fun. I also met an Australian girl, she’s 16. We both attended the same school there in Japan.
Don’t worry too much about the host family. I guess all of them are nice. Our host mom’s really really nice. I’m sure your host family is, too.
Know what, I didn’t even wanna go home… Haha, anyway, I’m sure you’ll have fun. I stayed in Kanazawa. It’s a nice place. :)

I want to start a web host!?

April 27, 2010 rack hosting 3 Comments

Hey Yahoo techies,

I want to start a hosting company and I need to know where and what to buy for a server that has similar quality as server on BlueHost, GoDaddy, and 1and1. To help you organize an answer, here’s a list.

1 Server Parts
a. CPU
b. RAM and amount
2. Server Rack
3. Storage Databases
4. Host Control Panel
5. XAMPPS to install MySQL, PHP, Mercury, etc.
6. High Speed ISP (Which ones? I live in Irvine, CA)

I have no idea what brands and hardware specifications I need. Please tell em what parts I would need and which ones are best or adequate for a Host. Is XAMPPS and a CPanel License all I need to install??

So is that all I need? Let me know if I need anything else to run a web host company! Software, Hardware, or anything at all. I do plan on having a office location to run the Host, it’s not from home.

Wamr Regards,
Jason
I’m not blindly leaping. I am just uncertain about everything I need, and I am taking classes. I also have quite a few acquaintances who will help manage it for a cut. I am just here to get the rundown on equipment mainly. Anyone give me a list please?
I do have stock actually, Stocks and Bonds Net worth plummeted from $460k to $138k recently. I also do architectural design and have had some fun doing a few car designs. I also own a few businesses. Just trying to learn what I need to know so I can hire people who know what they’re doing to manage everything. I don’t want to blindly hire people and appoint people to buy random parts that end up DoA or low performing.

You need to add things like:

Data Center equipped or compatible building.
Clean room for the data center/NOC.
Underground diesel storage tank(s) for backup generator.
60-100Kw Diesel generator for backup power.

It isn’t just high speed Internet access.
Most Data centers have redundant OC-12s or larger.

And Jason, once you know what you need, you need to have someone who is actually experienced and well qualified to run all of it.

When I see someone with limited technical knowledge wanting to leap head long into a technical project of this type of magnitude, it reminds me of George of the Jungle. Watch out for that …. TREE!

It seems to happen a lot and the results are pretty predictable.

You’d have better odds of success playing the stock market especially lately.

You’ve driven a car. You may even know a few models of cars really well. You’d have better odds at creating a new automobile corporation than at creating a web host.

Edit at 12:26AM PDT.

Jason $3 Million US Dollars might get you into the start up of this type of arena. Sky Dayton had considerably more than that when he started Earthlink. It was merely an ISP. I was his 34th employee at Earthlink. Sky had significant positive cash flow from the Internet Cafe in Los Angeles.
If you are really serious, you can hire my services as an expert consultant. For this I would charge you $600 per hour during normal business hours. Off hours rates are considerably higher. I do not take shares in lieu of payment.
Getting involved in something you know nothing about IS blindly leaping.

When should I upgrade my server?

April 25, 2010 rack hosting 1 Comment

I am hosting a small website off of my home computer and I am starting to get a couple hundred page views a day. I would like to know when it would be a good time to move to a dedicated server and maybe in the future, a rack mounted server.

as soon as you can afford it.

I need to know how to add pcitures to a website and be able to click and enlarge them?

April 23, 2010 rack hosting 3 Comments

I ordered a web host from Yahoo Geocities and I’m trying to add a large mass of pictures to the site and be able to click and enlarge them it’s to show pictures of a house and I have racked my brain I know a little HTML but just enough.

Colanth has the easiest way. Later you may be interested in doing a very simple small Iframe to ’show’ the larger picture in. The user wouldn’t need to leave the page. See an example at

http://thurmania.com/Maps.html

which works very well. In this method you load all the large pics on another page (the content page) and then link to them with a Target link. By the time a user has read your intro, the content page would be loaded and the large pics would appear instantly.

Just something to keep in mind when/if you get into designing a little more. My sites are on Yahoo Geocities, too.

Dinner Party Questions?

April 20, 2010 rack hosting 3 Comments

I have hosted many a dinner party in my day, but I am hosting this one so my husband can clinch a big promotion. I have some ideas, but would like some input. The party will be for 12 people.

When they arrive there will be English cucumbers spread with Alouette, and topped with a small, thin slice of smoked salmon and a 1 – 2 pieces of scallion on top. Does it sound too strong a flavor? If so what would you suggest? And what type of wine?

For dinner we will start with a bed of greens topped with seared scallops and a lemon herb vinegarette. Then a rack of lamb roasted crusted with mustard and thyme, served with sauteed fresh broccolini in oilive oil with lemon zest, and roasted new potatoes. I need ideas for something vegetarian, just in case, I don’t want to ask, but I want to have something prepared. Also, again what type of wine.

And what for dessert. I was thinking some type of cheese in a fruit and wine reduction sauce, but I like something sweet. And a cordial?

You have put a lot of thought into this and I like your menu. I think the appetizer sounds delish but I would try one with/and without he scallions to see if it is too much. I am assuming you are using herb abd garlic alloutte spread? To get around the vegetarian. I would make a pasta with a simple oil/butter suace filled with lots of veggies. If noone eats it then you can heat it up the next day as I am sure you will too tired to make another big meal. Fennel might be a good ingredient in the pasta since you are having lamb. I have made a vegetarian pasta before with red, yellow and orange peppers julienned, red onion also julienned, mushrooms in the above mentioned sauce and it was very good and very pretty with all of the colors.

Wine….I would have red and white available. Also, you might have whiskey, vodka available for any non wine drinkers (some people are affected by the phosphates in red wine). As for dessert I would go simple and use mascopone cheese. It is easily found in the grocery store and can be mixed with fruit in a variety of ways. I would serve it maybe in martini glasses to make it look all fancy. Good luck I am sure your husband will be promoted by the time the night is through!
