Problems with Hosting, FTP, Frontpage…the works. Help! Awardspace.com/GoDaddy.com?

I have made a website before on Frontpage and uploaded it to Yahoo Geocities using the File Manager they have. It was simple and easy… However, I have since bought my own domain and am in the process of creating another website using FrontPage. I used GoDaddy.com to register and purchase my domain, and since they didn’t offer free webhosting I was advised to go with a free host like Awardspace.com, which I did. Last night I tried to upload my pages a number of ways, but I must be doing something wrong because NOTHING is working. I uploaded a page to the file manager there and linked my awardspace account with my domain name… but it’s not showing up. I also tried FTP between FrontPage and awardspace, but FP is asking for things that awardspace didn’t supply me with… like (ftp://_________) and directory name, etc. Awardspace also has a program that accepts FP extensions, but I couldn’t get that to work either. I know I’m skipping a step somewhere or doing something wrong, but what?

The ftp:// address is the FTP site you need to connect to to upload the files. Awardspace will supply you with this information.

What email providers also provide free website hosting and builders?

March 11, 2010 email hosting 2 Comments

I was wondering if there were any other email providers that would host websites for members..and had an easy website builder. I’ve already tried yahoo and msn,and wasn’t very pleased.. any ideas?

*It would also be nice if the hoster/builder had a member/mysql data base.**

I would suggest 000webhost free hosting. They have no ads, 1.5GB of space, 100GB of monthly bandwidth and most of the basic things are supported. They also have a website autoinstaller which you can use to install shopping websites, forums, blogs and more with 1 click. I would say a free host is the best to start with, then you can switch to a payed one with more options if you need them.

Can anyone recommend a "green" web hosting service/company? Can you use yahoo ecommerce with another host?

March 11, 2010 ecommerce hosting 4 Comments

I’m starting a niche natural/eco-friendly ecommerce business and would like to use a green hosting company. I orginally was looking at using Yahoo’s Small Business ecommerce solution simply because it’s easy and everything is right "out of the box" plus it seems like a great way to get started with an ecommerce biz fairly easily. The only problem is their hosting isn’t ecofriendly or "green". I would love to have a "green" web host since this goes along with my business and plus I don’t want to be wasting energy. So my question is really two fold, 1) CAN I use a green" hosting service while at the same time using Yahoo’s ecommerce solution 2) Which green hosting service is best?

Answer to #2

The only GREEN HOSTING service that I know offhand is "GoodAvocado" they provide Reliable Cloud Network powered by wind energy starting at $4.99 a month…

Category: Web Hosting, Eco Web Hosting

Answer to #1
It doesnt make sense to use Yahoo services + another hosting company… and since you wanna be eco green, Yahoo isnt so defeats your gameplan..

What all software and hardware do I need to host my own database driven website?

March 11, 2010 database hosting 1 Comment

I have been using a hosting service for the past few years to host my company’s website. However the website has become very important in my company’s day to day operations. I would like to host my own site (creating an intranet to host this website). The website would still have to be assessable from the internet as well. I am looking to have a Windows hosting platform, a Mysql database, and php as well. Since I have never ventured in to the hosting I am not real sure what all it would take. How many servers, what operating systems on them. I do not think I will need a faster internet connection then my current DSL because there will be only a couple of people to sign on the website through the internet a week and it is highly unlikely they will be on it at the same time. I am not interested in email for this site at this time either. Any suggestion to get me started? Thanks.

I got a suggestion, don’t post your question 5 times in a row and people might be more willing to answer you.

Who Are The Top Webhosting Companies that Allow .HTACCESS Files to be Uploaded to Virtual Server Directories?

I need to upload .HTACCESS file to a designated folder but Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting does not allow this. Please tell me of a few "Top Tier" web hosting companies that allow this. Please no "fly by night" or "offshore" web hosts that will be out of business tomorrow, thanks.

I know GoDaddy will allow it.

Is there such an application for BlackBerry?

I am looking for an application for my BlackBerry Curve 8330 ( US Cellular) that will allow me to search for and browse a variety of drink recipes so that when I am hosting a social gathering, I can be a good bartender. Free would be the preference but if I must pay for it, then so be it.

Trial is free, but the full application 12.99. Thats reasonable. Especially for about over a thousand of recipes. :)

Help! Opening an online store and I need advice. What is the best cheap ecommerce web host?

I am opening an online boutique/store. What is the best low cost ecommerce web host? I want to pay monthly (not yearly).I would also like any tips or advice on opening the store. I am new to all of this. I have my products and I found an easy flash website builder to build the site with. I just really need a good web host, so I can get started soon. Thanks!

MyHostSource.com offers monthly payments. A plan that may fit you is the $9.95/month plan. This also comes with an ecommerce option for free that helps you set up your store using ecommerce website templates. You would select this option from the control panel once your account is active, and it will walk you through setting up a store front. Support will also help you if need be.

Next, you’ll want a paypal account to take payments. This is the cheapest method of accepting payments and doesn’t require you to have an SSL license which adds to the cost of a website if you take credit card info directly. You can however opt to use a merchant gateway but once again additional costs are incurred.

Hosting Access Database at an ISP?

March 9, 2010 database hosting 1 Comment

I have created a simple database using Microsoft Access for "adding" records. its workin fine for my office. now im opening another office elswhere. can ISPs be able to host this database even though its made of access? id use mysql but i dnt have the sofwtare. i want records to be enterd at both offices and the data should update automatically.. please help. its urgent

If your ISP provides hosting and a hosting package would include MS Access database, then you could. Otherwise you have to find a hosting provider who offers Access database access. The same thing applies to MySQL. In case the hosting provider – for YOUR website – provides a MySQL database you can utilize this as well. Additionally you could download the free community edition of MySQL and then you would have the software, too.

regards connecting two locations you could check out this answer from answers.yahoo.com. It may give you useful clues.
