Does http://www.yahoo.com/ have a virus now?

April 15, 2010 managed vps 5 Comments

I can’t open www.yahoo.com but I manage to go to yahoo! answers by searching on google.com

Everytime I try to go to www.yahoo.com, my avast! activates and it’s says this:

avast! Warning
A Virus Was Found!

There is no reason to worry, though. avast! has stopped the malware before it could enter your computer. When you click on the "Abort connection" button, the download of the dangerous file will be canceled.

File name: http://www.yahoo.com/\unp210797888
Malware name: VBS:Malware-gen
Malware type: Virus/Worm
VPS version: 080622-0, 06/22/2008

Processing——-

Abort connection
*************
After I click on "abort connection" it later shows that the yahoo website "The page cannot be displayed"

So, what can I do if I can’t go to yahoo website normally? For now I can only enter yahoo! answers without problems.

Should I ignore what my avast says? Or should I restart or wait for tomorrow and see if everything becomes normal again?

Please help me and thanks!

It appears to be a false-positive from Avast since their last signature update, but there is no official word yet. (It is the middle of the night in the Czech Republic where Avast is made.) They will probably have some information on their Monday morning.

You can follow this thread at the Avast forum for further news:

Just got a Linux cPanel Virtual Private Server hosting and?

April 14, 2010 managed vps 1 Comment

I cannot for the life of me find the file manager or the public folder directory so I can upload html files, images or scripts. All I managed to do so far was change the nameservers, add a hostname, which is some word plus my domain name, again, this is for a Linux cPanel VPS acct., NOT shared.
Since it is an unmanaged VPS acct no support is given by Dotster
anyone know of a in-depth and easy tutorial, besides this host. I need this really quick.

For Chief Executives, VPs and Directors Only, Please?

April 14, 2010 managed vps 1 Comment

OK. Here’s the deal. I am writing a story. And the main character of my story is a guy in his early thirties, who is the CEO of a big company, kind of like Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s or something like that — a high-end chain of department stores with hundreds of branches worldwide, focusing mostly on clothing, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, etc. Now, here’s what I want to know: What do you guys actually DO? I mean I know you eat lunch and get haircuts and stuff like everyone else. But what do you actually DO? CEOs whom I know don’t hire or fire anyone. HR does that. They don’t make budgets. Accounting does that. They don’t manage departments or divisions. Managers do that. So, what in the world is it that you guys actually DO? I just don’t get it. You guys don’t even drive your own cars. A chauffeur does that. From what I can tell, you have to work very hard and do your job really well to GET TO BE A CEO. But once you are there, it’s all gravy. I can’t imagine how a big company like IBM or GE would just fall apart one day if the CEO did not go to work. Now, it would fall apart, at least for a day or two, if one of the key workers did not go to work.

So, again, what in the heck do you guys actually do? I mean, what’s your job? Why do people hire CEOs? There must be some reason. The whole world can’t be crazy and give CEOs million-dollar salaries and private jets for doing nothing! I don’t want confidential secrets or anything. I just want to know what a CEO or VP or Director does, during a given day or during a given week. I’m talking about CEOs of big companies. I am a CEO myself but my budget is $1,000 per month and I do everything myself — drive my own car, wash my own dishes, answer my own damn phone, etc. So, I’m not a good example of a CEO for my story. I’m talking about those guys who sit in big offices with a million security guards, 200 Beamers, 100-foot yachts, and a pile of secretaries and stuff like that — real CEOs, not people like me.

too long……..pls shorten it

VPS Hellp pleease?

April 3, 2010 managed vps 2 Comments

Hello,

I need to connect my home computer with office network.

We have lan messenger installed on our office server to chat with any one in office.

I want to connect my home computer to office network so I can access lan messenger and chat with any body.

I head work VPS is solutions.

How to convert PC into VPS ?

Do hosting provided provide VPS and are they secure and easy to manage ?

Thanks in advance.

What you need to do is setup a VPN on your office server that has full access to the office program. When you log on to the office server through the VPN, you will be able to use the lan messenger.
See the link below on how to setup a VPN.

Somehow my little Uber managed to win the VP although in the second cog round the other side went sad):
Sorry Cait (princesskait1), Nikki(princesskitten77), and Kisa(kisaubertoon)! It’s too bad you guys didn’t win :(
I’m not going to spoil the Pie Round…. but it was just uberrific. One of my hardest VPs ever done. HECK, it IS the hardest. Especially because I was on my 2 tracker.
