Linux VPS can i run Windows Programs on a vps?

January 16, 2010 windows vps hosting 2 Comments

Ok, I was going to get a vps, but they are far to expensive for me, so i was looking at linux servers and they were much cheaper.

I need a vps for web hosting and hosting a game server but both which i use are for windows only, now i think there is a program for linux which runs windows programs.

But i need to know if it works so can i run window programs on a linux vps or can you tell me a way how to.

or if you know a windows vps for under £15 ($15) please tell me but i highly doubt that there is

Don’t know if it works on a Linux distro that’s VPS specific, but Wine is one way to run Windows apps on a Linux server:

I have a standalone sim hosted on my pc now but would like to host my own Virtual World on my VPS. it uses plesk 8.6 with windows 2003
with virtuozzo power panel.
Can anyone help me on this?

I am not sure if this site necessarily has a video on exactly that topic, but it does have video tutorials on a variety of VPS questions. Every video tutorial on this page deals with VPS. I’d recommend you at least glance over it. Hope this helps!

what is the difference between a DNS server and a web hosting server? Are both of them same?

what is the difference between a DNS server and a web hosting server? Are both of them same?

They’re not the same. A web host will usually have one or more servers devoted to hosting sites, and at least one DNS server. The hosting servers are where your website is stored when you pay them to host your site.

A DNS server or Domain Name Server is part of a huge database spread out across the Internet. Any time you visit a site by typing in a name, like www.google.com or www.yahoo.com, the DNS server converts that name into an IP address.

The reason is simple. Computers communicate over the Internet using IP address, nothing more, but IP addresses are difficult to remember (209.85.135.99 for www.google.com and 87.248.113.14 for www.yahoo.com). DNS allows you to use human-readable names instead. The DNS server resolves the name to a computer-friendly IP address and saves you the trouble of remembering.

Copy the IP addresses for Google and Yahoo and paste them in your browser’s address bar. They work just like a URL. They’re just not as easy to make sense of.
