How long does 1and1 website hosting to send my validation email?

April 18, 2010 email hosting 3 Comments

It says within 24 hours but usually validation emails are sent instantly, does it normally take longer, its been a couple hours for me.

Godaddy and 1an1 are good places for registering domain names, not for web hosting services. I am using hostmonster webhosting for mine

Web Page hosting help please?

http://uk.geocities.com/drfcskittlesteam@btinternet.com/index.htm is done by "FTP" upload via ms-frontpage. This is free via btinternet broadband.
All I need to know is?
Does this work the same on the pay webhosting with a ".com" or ".co.uk". Do you simply just up-load the same as I do now??

This is one I have been looking at! not the chepest I know.

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/btbusinessProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=BTB-WEB-HOSTING-I

The methods for uploading your work to a host server depend on that particular service.

Some of them allow FTP (which is fairly common). Some have server extensions that allow you to modify and edit directly. There are various other ways.

I have a bad habit of not clicking random links posted here, so I can’t verify which one the service you’re looking at uses. However, their sales/customer service area should be able to tell you. That’s why they are there.

Use Windows for Frontpage, but Frontpage sucks(sorry it does) Use KompoZer it’s a free WYSIWYG <html> editor.

For your problem I don’t know, but you could use 000webhosting.com. They offer 250MB of Disk Space and 100GB of Bandwidth for FREE! It’s a good deal.

Website creation and Webhosting Questions?

I know a little bit about website development and have made a few in the past. But some of them I paid a company for the template and then I just maintained the site. But this time someone asked me to make one and it has to be kind of similar to ebay or craigslist so I need some questions answered.

1) Is Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 the best program to use at my skill level for creating websites? Or are there other more simple programs. (I have used FrontPage quite a bit but it is unavailable for a free trial version and I don’t really want to invest 200-400$ at first for this website seeing as this idea might not hit off.)

2)Once I do get my website done, I read that you have to get someone to host it? (My employer has already bought the url off godaddy) How exactly do I send my stuff to a webhost and then make daily or weekly changes to the website when needed? (This website idea is going to be ran from our homes. We don’t work for a big corporation that has its own servers)

3)Do you know of any good tutorials that can help me with a more advanced kind of site like ebay or craigslist?

1) Dreamweaver is probably a good choice to get started.

2) Yes, you will need web hosting. I recommend using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) type of hosting account. I use linode.com which starts at $20/m but there are many out there. With a VPS you get your own full operating system, and it seems to you like a whole server all to yourself, but really it’s run inside a virtualization container so they can run a whole bunch of them on one server. That gives you a lot of advantages, for example, you only have to pay for what you need, and when you need to upgrade, they can just change the settings so you have more CPU access, RAM, etc. without you having to change anything. Also it’s the lowest cost way to go. If you try to get cheaper, like the $5/m webhosts, you’ll find they have poor uptime, and a lot of hidden restrictions.

3) You will pretty much need to be doing more than just making a "web site" but rather, making a whole "web application." I recommend that you use RubyOnRails, because Ruby is easy to learn and makes sites like this a lot easier to build. That would also mean not using Dreamweaver, except maybe for the user interface. Instead you would use a program editor such as RadRails or Netbeans. If you choose Ruby, I recommend the book Agile Web Development with Ruby.

Another alternative is using Perl or Python. You could use PHP, which is easier for the baby steps, but making a large web app in PHP can often be more difficult than using other languages.

Expect to sink a large number of development hours into a site like this.

Also I advise not to worry about the way the site looks until after you have all the features working, otherwise you can work on it "forever" without getting it working.

What are rechargeable expenses & what things could they include for a business that provides a service?

I am self employed & am filling out my tax return. I have done internet marketing work & wonder if the expenses for webhosting & expenses incurred in creating websites could be counted as rechargeable expenses? (The expenses were included in the bill to my client.)

Yes, any expense that you incur and pass an invoice a third party to pay classes as a rechargable expense. Providing you can prove that it was directly charged back to them.

Im starting a small business and I need help?

I will need to build a website. I can easily afford the webhosting but I dont understand what all the options are, all I really need is a website that has email, payment options such as visa/mastercard & paypal and obviously a nice design. It is really a small business so its more for the exposure. Are these things all included in the monthly fee. I know HTML but not all that stuff about FTP, PHP, SQL, please help.

If you don’t know how to implement the page yourself try emailing some web designer and asking for quotes. Don’t get hosting before you have that settled because many will offer cheaper hosting with their services.

I don’t want to discourage you from trying to learn PHP and SQL but, if the main reason you want the website is exposure then you must keep in mind that if your website does not look very professional and is not easy to follow and accessible people will be discouraged from coming back.

Also, people need to feel secure. Implementing a payment system by your self is definitely not a safe option. Worldpay is meant to be good, and they do give you instructions on how to add their code in your site but they charge a lot, so for a small, new company, I would not suggest it. Paypal offers a cheaper merchant account option and there you can accept major credit cards and paypal payments. If you find a web designer that offers a more expensive option, suggest it.

Another thing. Search Engine Optimisation is something you should keep in mind. If people can not find the website through the internet, you are not going to get any new clients from there. So, you should also do your research on that topic. Submit it to all major search engines, to other directories, try to find other websites that will have a link to your site… Most web companies will promote your website through other client sites and that is also very important.

I disagree a bit with getting free web hosting because a very important factor would be to have a simple and easy to remember URL leading to your website. And you definitely don’t want ads and popups coming up.
