I am looking for a web hosting company that will allow my site to scale up with traffic. Do you know of any?

March 9, 2010 application hosting 8 Comments

Basically i want to pay for the bandwith my site uses. I looked into Amazon cloud computing. But could not figure out how to host a Tomcat application in there. Any suggestions ? thanks

You could start with http://www.slicehost.com
They plans start from $20/month, and since it’s a VPS hosting you can install whatever you want.

They have a lot of plans, so you can easily upgrade, and since they were recently acquired by Rackspace they’ll probably make it very easy to switch to their dedicated hosting later on.

    You may want to look to the following web hosting companies that provides un-meterd or enough bandwidths.

    http://www.bluehost.com/

    http://servage.net/

    http://www.hostgator.com

    If still you can’t get what you want then i would recommend configure server yourself and get good up link bandwidth.

    I suggest http://www.hosting24.com they give you a free domain name (if you need it), come with unlimited webspace, unlimited data transfer and they are very competitive on price. Also when you join use this dicount code to get 25% off any of their plans: 25OFF

    Here are some features:

    * Unlimited Web Space
    * Unlimited Data Transfer
    * Free Domain Forever!
    * cPanel contol panel, Fantastico
    * PHP, MySQL, Ruby, Perl, CGI..

    I host all my websites there because i trust the customer support which is more important to me! hope this helps

    How about http://www.webfaction.com/services/hosting?affiliate=hostsecret . They have bandwidth plans in the increment of 600GB, 1200GB, 1800GB and 2400GB.

    If you go beyond that, you can upgrade to their managed dedicated servers: http://www.webfaction.com/services/dedicated?affiliate=hostsecret

    At Wefaction, they give you a full linux shell account with all the tools you need to compile anything you like – so your Tomcat application probably would not be a problem. Their service is almost as flexible as a VPS. One big advantage of their shared hosting service is that they maintain the server and keep it secure for you.

    Recently they were awarded "The Web Host that Does Not Suck": http://hostingsthatsuck.com/webfaction-sucks/

    Good luck.

    If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months’ time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

    I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

    Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

    They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 1500000 MB (1500 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
    Visit the site to check details.

    HostGator is The best choice to start with ….
    http://besthostingcompanies.info/?p=14
    Get First Month For Only 0.01 $
    Hostgator is solid and you can have unlimted addon domains too
    Hostgator is about the best you can get with shared hosting
    Yeah…. For less than $10 per month, you can host as many domain name as you want.
    I use hostgator myself, because I like how much they give you to start with so you can grow before you need to upgrade, but there’s plenty of room to upgrade as well. Good support, live chat if you want to ask them anything – even before you buy. My account was activated within 10 minutes and they replied to support tickets promptly.
    Hostgator offers different size plans so you can start small and upgrade as needed.

Hi,
I want to know if Godaddy, HostGator,… are considered as shared servers or there are differences between mentioned services and a shared web server.
Thank you
I can only answer for GoDaddy as I’m a client. Yes. It’s shared hosting unless you purchased a dedicated hosting plan which is $$$
