January 16, 2010 windows vps hosting 2 Comments

So far i used only shared hosting and VPS but I am hosting my web site now, at home, on Windows XP
I am about to buy a dedicated server using Windows2003 web edition and since it doesn’t have an active directory to set up DNS, how can I configure the dns server to point to my server machine?

Thanks in advance

u need to have an ip add , go to tcp ip properties in the network connection assign ip and also for dns
go to add or remove programs , add window components , netork services click details , there keep tick on dns , insert ur 2003 cd

install
after install go to admin tools in start menu
open dns
click system name there to floders will shown farward and backward zones
click on farward zone specife domain name with .com or any thing like .org …. extension
follow steps
in the backward zone specifi ip add and follow the steps
got my computer properties change name advance
assign dns name
server must be in work group only then system will restart

You don’t need AD to setup DNS but I’m not sure if Windows 2003 Web Edition has DNS server in it.

My recommendation is to use a free service like everydns, it will make your life soooo much easier.
